NIBS runs on three topical days: motivation, innovation and young researchers, where speakers from academia, industry and representatives of the young research generation may present their ongoing work. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

- Materials for energy and sustainability
- Sustainable materials for chemical and electrochemical energy storage
- Bionics, Biomimicry and applications
- Nanophotonics and quantum optics
- Nanomaterials for electronic, optoelectronics and sensing.
